NETSTARS Completes Stablecoin Payment Pilot at Lawson Convenience Store
Demonstrating POS-linked payments across multiple stablecoins and blockchain networks

NETSTARS Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President and CEO: Tsuyoshi Ri; “NETSTARS”) today announced the completion of a proof of concept for its stablecoin payment service, Stablecoin Pay, at Lawson Osaki Atrium Store on August 17.

The pilot verified real-world point-of-sale payments using both Japanese yen-denominated and globally adopted U.S. dollar-denominated stablecoins, including USDC and USDT, integrated with an existing retail POS system. Payments across multiple stablecoins and blockchain networks were successfully processed, confirming the operational feasibility of stablecoin payments in a real convenience store environment. NETSTARS also verified payment speed, user operability, store operation impact, and behavior across multiple payment patterns, including error cases.

The ability to support widely used dollar-backed stablecoins alongside yen-denominated digital currencies highlights the potential for future payment options for international travelers visiting Japan, while also representing a meaningful step toward bringing blockchain-based payments into everyday retail commerce.

Comments from Companies Involved in This Pilot and Supporters of the StarPay-X Concept

Morph “Stablecoins are ready to move into everyday consumer payments, and the ultimate test is high frequency retail. We are pleased that Morph is supporting USDC and USDT in the Netstars and Lawson pilot, bringing onchain payments into a real Japanese convenience store POS setting. This is a meaningful step for everyday adoption in Japan. Combined with the country’s progress on regulated yen stablecoins such as JPYC and JPYSC, it reflects clear momentum toward supervised, next generation payment rails. Morph is designed for these real world use cases and looks forward to working with Netstars to expand practical stablecoin payments across the Japanese market.”

JPYC ”This pilot marks an important milestone in demonstrating the real-world viability of stablecoin payments. We are especially encouraged by the successful testing of yen-denominated stablecoin payments in convenience stores, a retail environment that plays a central role in everyday consumer life in Japan. JPYC will continue collaborating with partners such as Netstars to advance trusted digital payment infrastructure and expand the use of stablecoins in everyday transactions.”

Bitget Wallet ”Japan represents an important market for the next phase of stablecoin and Web3 adoption. We are excited to be working with Netstars to connect Bitget Wallet with real-world payment infrastructure in Japan. While Bitget Wallet is not participating in this initial Lawson pilot, our integration is already underway, and we look forward to enabling more users to seamlessly use digital assets in everyday payment scenarios.”

WEA JAPAN (NETSTARS development partner) “NETSTARS’ commitment to stablecoin payments reflects a forward-looking vision for the future of payments. This pilot with Lawson represents an important step toward practical adoption by bringing stablecoin payments into a high-frequency retail environment such as convenience stores. Through its technical collaboration on QR code-based stablecoin payment solutions, WEA JAPAN will continue working with NETSTARS and ecosystem partners to expand the adoption and real-world use of stablecoin payments in Japan.”

Future Development of Stablecoin Pay

To bring stablecoin payments into real retail environments in Japan, seamless integration with POS register systems that manage product information is essential.

In this pilot, NETSTARS verified in-store payments using globally used USDC and USDT in addition to a yen-denominated stablecoin, and confirmed that such payments can be operated while maintaining existing store operations.

Confirming the practical applicability of payments using multiple coins and blockchains at a convenience store, a high-traffic retail environment, demonstrates the potential for stablecoin payments to become a new payment option not only for domestic users but also for international travelers visiting Japan.

NETSTARS will use the insights obtained through this pilot to promote the social implementation of stablecoin payments under its StarPay-X concept, a gateway connecting Web2 and Web3, and contribute to the development of next-generation payment infrastructure.
