Announcement: Funds Transfer Service Registration Completed,
NETSTARS Designated as Switching Service Provider for “JPQR Global”

NETSTARS Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Tsuyoshi Ri; hereinafter, “NETSTARS”) announces the completed registration of its Funds Transfer Service in accordance with the Payment Services Act (Registration No.: 00098, granted by the Director of the Kanto Regional Finance Bureau), and its designation as a switching system operator for “JPQR Global” promoted by the Payments Japan Association (hereinafter, “the PJA”). Through cashless payments, NETSTARS will support the facilitation and diversification of cross-border payments in Japan.

■ About JPQR Global
At present, various discussions and adjustments by relevant parties in Japan and overseas are taking place in order to achieve “mutual coordination between domestically unified standards (JPQR) and the unified standards of respective Asian nations”, as indicated in policies such as the Japanese government’s “Tourism Nation Promotion Basic Plan” (decided by the Cabinet on March 31, 2023). “JPQR Global” is an initiative aimed at domestic stores where payment is available through mutual coordination with other nations, and at Japanese consumers who visit other nations. Going forward, preparations are being made through JPQR Global to enable code payment services from various nations, with a focus on Southeast Asia, to be used within Japan. In addition, the project is aiming to enable Japanese code payment services that participate in this initiative to be used overseas, allowing payment by overseas unified QR codes.

■ About NETSTARS’ Role
NETSTARS will construct a “JPQR switching system”, and now that our registration as a Type II Funds Transfer Service Provider is complete, we have been designated by the PJA as a JPQR switching system operator. With this designation, we will provide the function of a single access point for switching providers operating respective countries’ unified standards and domestic acquirers. In addition, as a Funds Transfer Service Provider, we will take on the role of settlement between overseas switching providers and domestic acquirers.

With our registration as a Funds Transfer Service Provider, NETSTARS will work to provide more borderless and highly convenient services, as we strive toward achieving our mission: “to facilitate a smoother flow of money”.
