(Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Tsuyoshi Ri; hereinafter, “NETSTARS”) will provide the multi-cashless payment solution “StarPay” to the Asakusa Toshi-no-ichi Market (Battledore Fair), held within the precincts of Senso-ji Temple (Taito-ku, Tokyo) from December 17 (Sunday) to 19 (Tuesday), 2023. This will enable QR code payment at market stalls, with a focus on payments made by inbound tourists using overseas QR code payment services.

The Asakusa Toshi-no-ichi Market (Battledore Fair) is a collection of dozens of stalls that sell battledores (Traditional wooden paddle used in a game like badminton. Called ”hagoita” in Japanese, beautifully decorated hagoita are displayed in homes as lucky charms during the New Year.) , within the grounds of Senso-ji Temple. Many visitors, from within Japan and overseas, come to see the classic scenes of Asakusa in December, such as customers bartering with the battledore artisans, and traditional threefold clapping to thank buyers of battledores. This year marks the first full hosting of the market in 4 years, following the coronavirus pandemic. With the revival of inbound tourism, as a reinforcement of our measures aimed at increasing numbers of overseas tourists, NETSTARS will implement overseas QR code payment services at this event through “StarPay”.

At this year’s Asakusa Toshi-no-ichi Market (Battledore Fair), the following 8 QR code payment brands can be used by overseas visitors to pay at market stalls: Alipay+, WeChatPay, JKO Pay, UnionPay QR, Prompt Pay, GLN Pay and MB BANK. (Overseas QR code payment services accepted at market stalls may differ from stall to stall.)
