NETSTARS Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Tsuyoshi Ri; hereinafter, “NETSTARS”) has been selected by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry as a Subsidized Company for the FY 2022 Secondary Revision of the “Mobile Payment Model Unified Standard: Overseas Coordination Project Subsidy” (Unified QR Code Payment Interoperability System Construction Project).
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is proceeding with investigations to facilitate future interoperability between Japan’s unified QR code payment standard (JPQR) and Southeast Asian QR code payment standards. In order to achieve interoperability, an international switcher will be required for the construction and operation of a system to carry out telegraphic message switching and adjustment. NETSTARS will tackle the construction of such a system, receiving a portion of costs in the form of subsidies from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
NETSTARS, a pioneer of the QR payment gateway service in Japan, was the first to introduce China’s QR code payment service “WeChatPay” to Japan in 2015. Since then, NETSTARS has provided StarPay, a multi-cashless payment solution service that handles various Japanese and international QR code payments and other cashless payment services, to 15,000 companies within Japan. StarPay is compatible with QR code payment services from 10 countries and regions, allowing inbound tourists to Japan to use their own nation’s QR code payment services when making payments in Japan.
NETSTARS will utilize the knowledge we have cultivated thus far in the advancement of this project, while maintaining stable, continuous system operation, and will continue to contribute to the realization of unified QR code payment interoperability between Japan and Southeast Asian nations.
