Third Country Expansion in the “StarPay-Global” Project, following Mongolia and Qatar
NETSTARS Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Tsuyoshi Ri; hereinafter, “NETSTARS”) will provide international QR code payment service connectivity in Cambodia as a new destination for StarPay-Global, the global business of the multi-cashless payment solution StarPay. The service will be aimed at financial institutions that provide payment services within Cambodia. This will be the third country outside of Japan to receive provision of a service using the StarPay gateway, following the launches of services in Mongolia in 2022 and Qatar in 2023.
About StarPay-Global
NETSTARS is expanding its cashless payment business, including domestic and overseas QR code payment services, by building on the foundation of StarPay, which is comprehensively provided to enterprises, local governments and other bodies in Japan. As international circulation of goods and people continues to recover due to the easing of the coronavirus pandemic, NETSTARS is fully focusing on services aimed at inbound overseas tourists to Japan and the widespread adoption of cashless payment in overseas markets. Such initiatives form the “StarPay-Global” project.
About Provision of the StarPay Gateway Overseas
The multi-cashless payment solution gateway StarPay, which was originally developed in order to use the widespread Chinese payment app “WeChat Pay” within Japan, is a system specialized for international transactions. StarPay can manage all kinds of transaction routes, regardless of whether or not the transaction passes through Japan.
A core concept of the StarPay-Global project is to provide this gateway to financial institutions and service providers in various countries that aim toward enhanced utilization of payment methods for inbound tourists, thereby enabling compatibility with multiple payment services.
About Expansion in Cambodia
NETSTARS will provide the StarPay gateway to financial institutions in Cambodia. The initial aim will be service provision to Chinese and South Korean tourists to Cambodia. As tourism is a significant industry in Cambodia, a positive impact on the Cambodian economy can be anticipated if foreign visitors are enabled to use familiar payment services during their stay. Going forward, NETSTARS is aming to expand support for additional countries’ QR code payment services to become useable within Cambodia in future.
NETSTARS will continue to promote the cashless revolution both in Japan and overseas, and strive to achieve borderless payment solutions.
