NETSTARS Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Tsuyoshi Ri; hereinafter, “NETSTARS”) will commence provision of StarPay, NETSTARS’ multi-cashless payment gateway, to Cambodia’s Sathapana Bank (Headquarters:, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, CEO:FUNG Kai Jin). Through the StarPay gateway, payment by China’s “WeChat Pay” QR code payment service will be available for use in Cambodia, starting from June 30, 2023 (Fri).

Sathapana Bank Plc., a leading commercial bank in Cambodia, was established in 2016 as a result of the merger of two financial institutions namely Maruhan Japan Bank Plc., the first Japanese-owned commercial bank in Cambodia established since 2008 and Sathapana Limited, a microfinance institution, established since 1995.

Cambodia is currently focusing its efforts on attracting Chinese tourists, with a stated target of 1 million visitors this year. To encourage tourism, the government is permitting the use of the Chinese yuan as payment for tourism-related services within Cambodia, while also promoting the introduction of cashless payment. Sathapana Bank has adopted “StarPay” in order for Chinese tourists to use their own country’s QR code payment service when making payments in Cambodia.

NETSTARS’ “StarPay” is a multi-cashless payment solution gateway for various Japanese and international QR code payments and other cashless payment services. At present, StarPay supports payment at 340,000 locations within Japan for 15,000 companies. Utilizing knowledge cultivated in the domestic market, NETSTARS is now expanding provision of the StarPay gateway to overseas financial institutions, as part of its “StarPay-Global” project. By enabling inbound foreign visitors to use familiar payment services during their stays in various countries, the project aims to offer enhanced convenience to both tourists and stores.

NETSTARS will continue to promote the cashless revolution both in Japan and overseas, and strive to achieve borderless payment solutions.
